During the summer of 2024, the Library's Board of Trustees approved plans to invest in further improvements to the building and courtyard.

Increased efficiencies and better utilization of space over the past decade have opened the possibility of converting behind-the-scenes staff areas into additional square footage for the public, without expanding the building footprint.

Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2025 with an anticipated completion date by January of 2026. The Board of Trustees is currently in the process of hiring a construction firm under the construction manager at-risk model to oversee this project.

Improvements will include:

3 new study rooms on the first floor

Relocation of and reinvestment in the Local History Room, including a new digital archive and memory preservation lab available for patron use;

Readinggardenandoutdoorprogrammingpage12

Major renovation of the courtyard to create both a reading garden and optimal outdoor programming space;

A new community meeting room adjacent to the courtyard to accommodate high demand for programming and community meetings;

Teenareapage2

Further updates to the young adult area, including new seating, acoustical redesign and lighting improvements, and potential interactive features

Selfchecklocalhistorylobbypage3

Full renovation of the lobby and main restrooms on first floor;

Consolidation and reduction of behind-the-scenes staff areas, including lower level.

It is the Board goal to keek the Libary open with minimal disruption to patron services. However, there will temporary disruptions throughout the construction project, including, most prominently, the temporary rerouting of the main entrance through an alternative doorway as the floor tile and casework in the vestibule and lobby, and both restrooms are renovated.

Please stay tuned to this page for further updates as the project continues.
