Spring cleaning @ the Library!

With an eye toward creating a more warm and welcoming space on the first floor of the Library (and in response to the community-driven Strategic Plan), we've been doing some spring cleaning! You may have noticed some empty shelves, but don't worry -- the books have not been thrown away. Rather, we've gone through and pulled out older items and those used less often and will be moving them to storage shelves in the basement. They will still be in the catalog and available for you at your request -- just ask at the Reference Desk.

This drawing represents the new furnishings planned for the space across from the checkout desk. There will be soft chairs, tables and stools, and six computer workstations. To get the project started, we will be closing on Friday, June 6 to move books and shelving. Completion of the project is tentatively scheduled for mid to late July. We hope you like the change!

Wadsworth Community Complex

On May 1, the second community meeting regarding the collaborative partnership between Wadsworth City Schools, Wadsworth Public Library, WRH Health System, and the City of Wadsworth was held at Wadsworth Middle School.  The group presented a vision of the complex; explained how it could meet the needs described in the community survey; and showed site drawings that demonstrated where such a facility could be built on the existing high school property.  Please watch WCTV if you were unable to attend. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 7 pm in the Wadsworth Middle School Cafetorium.

Loanable laptops are now available!

Ever drop in at the Library to use the Internet and find all of the public computers in use? Now you can borrow a laptop to use anywhere in the building! You need to be 18 or older, have a valid Ohio driver's license or other state-issued ID, and a Wadsworth Library account in good standing. Laptops may be borrowed for up to two hours per day and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Vietnam veteran & author Jan Craig Scruggs

In conjunction with the visit to Wadsworth of the traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall, veteran, author, and the man behind the creation of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC, Jan Craig Scruggs, will speak at O. J. Work Auditorium on May 28 at 7 pm.

It was Scruggs' idea to create a memorial, listing the names of the 58,000 who died in Vietnam, and his determination and vision that oversaw the raising of the millions needed to build it. He is the author of To Heal a Nation, the story behind the creation of the memorial. A made-for-TV movie of the same title stars actor Eric Roberts. (The movie will be shown at the Library on Tuesday, May 27 at 7 pm.) More recently, Scruggs authored Why Vietnam Still Matters, a book he dedicated to high school students.

Now you can download electronic books, audio books, videos, and music free of charge from the Ohio eBook Project, from home or office or from a special computer station at the Wadsworth Library. Browse and search hundreds of great titles and download them to computers, transfer them to portable devices, or burn them onto CDs for reading, listening, and viewing anywhere, anytime.

To start exploring, click on the link labeled "Download Books, Music & Movies" from the menu at the left side of this page. The OverDrive Download Station at the Library is located in the AV room. You will need to bring your MP3 player and USB cable with you -- the Download Station does not have a CD burner.
