Use of online computer service are fast and FREE as I am not having to pay for internet connection from my home for the 2 hours of use I have each day available at Wadsworth Library!! Plus all the reference materials, books, tapes, CD's, DVD's ETC! Thank you Wadsworth city, Medina county, Ohio state, and USA tax payers!!

Nothing is free. The only way it is free is if you don't pay propery taxes, local, state, federal taxes. then i guess it is free. Yeah it might feel like it is free but iot is not. how come anything the goverment does is free?

I love to go to the library and browse for books, DVD's and CD's to borrow instead of purchasing them at a store. It makes me feel like I have been shopping, and got everything for free!

I love the self-service option. It is quick, painless and there is always one available. The only part that I do not like is that it seems like it is in an attempt to eliminate employees, or a reaction to less employees staffed. Libraries provide public services we take for granted. The email service and online request features are very helpful. Thanks for the advancements, you are appreciated.

Oh my gosh...where do I even start?!! We absolutely LOVE the programs available for the children. They love the library anyway, but really get excited when there's a program scheduled for them to go to. You can't do everything, but if you were looking for ideas, I'd love to see a program geared towards Kindergarten boys..or about that age. Our son does take part in some of the programs with our 9 year old daughter, but he would LOVE to get to go to a program that 'she couldn't go to'!!! Thanks for everything you do here....I don't know what we'd do without it!

We are happy that you enjoyed the computer class for children. At this point we have plans to continue the computer classes through the spring on a monthly basis. Due to the budget situation and current staffing levels we are unable to make this a more frequent program. We do however appreciate your interest and hope that you will continue to attend the monthly classes.

Thank you for your suggestion about beginner computer classes for homeschoolers. The Children's Department will be hosting 2 different computer classes that are geared toward children. The first is Basic Word Processing on Tuesday, January 19th from 4 - 5pm for those in grades 3 - 6. The second class is OpenOffice Impress (slideshow presentations) on Tuesday, February 16th from 4 - 5pm for those in grades 2 - 6. We hope that you will register for these classes on the Children's website.

If you are referring to the button on the homepage that is labeled "Library Hours," that did lead to a page that listed both the old hours (pre-September 1) and our new hours. Kathy- Email or text notification is probably going to work better for you than phone calls. With staff layoffs in the Library's immediate future, it's unlikely that we'd be able to make calls in a timely manner. As you will note in the article above, we not only send out weekly account updates, but also send email/text messages when a hold has arrived for pickup. This notice is generated as soon as the item has been routed in, and you have one week (7 days) in which to retrieve your materials. So much of the time, we look at the cost of something as the bottom line. Here is something to consider...compare what it cost to live in Wadsworth compared to two other libraries mentioned in the article - Westlake and North Canton. I grew up and lived in North Canton for 20 years before moving to Wadsworth. They have a great libray. So do we. They have a great school system. So do we. They have a nicely developed downtown area. So do we. And with the Hoover Co a thing of the past, their property owners are paying an even heavier burden to maintain those services than WE have ever been asked to support financially. Personally, I would rather have too many people around to help me than not enough. I have never encountered one staff member that was not ready and willing to help in any way possible.

Our Wadsworth Library is and should be the PRIDE OF WADSWORTH. Libraries are the "best bang for the buck" and critical to all of us in this tought economic time. The self checkout is wonderful....it allows librarians to do more important tasks yet be available if we need them. The satellite library will spread access and be of great benefit to those in the community center...yet another great idea. Our library is my favorite place in Wadsworth..a life long gift to all of us. THANKS to all who work and volunteer there.

I wanted to say thank you for the services you offer at our local library. I think Wadsworth library is amazing...and it's exciting that you've been recognized nationally. As a stay at home mom, I appreciate being able to easily take my children to a place where they can participate in fun programs while learning about how to use the library and its resources. Thank you for your observations about the current library funding issue. Prior to the proposal by Governor Strickland to cut state library support by 30%, we had already realized a decline in revenue of nearly 20%. In response to that decline, we have made the following reductions: Left 4 vacated staff positions unfilled with more vacancies coming this fall Cut bookmobile neighborhood stops with fewest visitors Cut the materials budget Eliminated staff raises for 2009 Other possible cuts and elimination of programs and services are under consideration as we await the final budget from Columbus. Please note that we have not asked for additional funds or more tax money; what we have asked is that the state legislature not impose any further reductions on public libraries than they have already had to absorb because of the declining economy. As for the satellite library: While we feel that this will greatly benefit the citizens of Wadsworth who will be using the community center, this is something we will only undertake if the resources are there in 2012 when we would actually be incurring the expense. If the funds are not available, we won't be able to participate. The space for the self-service station in the recreation center lobby is being provided by the City of Wadsworth; the Library has no responsibility for construction costs. Public libraries in Ohio are facing an unprecedented fiscal crisis. We believe that the Wadsworth Library is responding appropriately with prudence and good stewardship of your tax dollars.

About the library funding you need to cut back cut some of your employees.I have to check out my own books now so you dont need as many people . you have 2 at the refrence desk cut one of them. You also do not need a satellite library. I had to take a $1.65 an hour pay cut to keep my job.I am tired of every body wanting more tax money learn how to balance your budget.

I have to say I just thoroughly enjoy this library. If I could choose how to spend a day with no kids, the library would be the first choice! I've not tried the self-serve checkout system so I can't really say how it works, but I suppose it's like all change-it takes a bit to get used to. Initially I didn't like the self check-out at the grocery store but boy now I love it! I'm thinking it might be awkward at first, but I think as we get used to it, it will work just fine. I'm very grateful for all the things this library has to offer-especially when so many of us just don't have a lot of extra money to spend on entertainment. The movies, books and CD's that we can order on-line and pick up is just awesome in my opinion. Thank you Wadsworth Library and all the great people that work there!

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the Library’s new self-serve checkout system. We carefully researched this option before implementing it and sent staff to other area libraries to study how they managed the self-serve systems in their buildings. While it will take some time for everyone to become accustomed to the new system, we believe that the end result will be faster service and more privacy for customers, while also allowing Library staff to take on other responsibilities. Recently I brought my 3 yr old daughter to storytime and found out that the library was moving to all selfservice checkout. I'm not real happy about this idea. I find that it is not very customer service oriented. I only have one child and I found it hard to watch her and remember how many books I had put through the scanner. I had to have help from the circulation asst who was on duty. For those who have more children or for the growing senior population I don't think this is a very helpful process. I think it may not do much more than cause headaches for the library! I think self checkout should be OPTIONAL!

Thank you for your observations. The Library has always requested that users have their library cards with them to borrow materials. This requirement is really no different than the requirement that you have your credit card with you to make store purchases or your debit card to make bank withdrawals. As a convenience, we had previously allowed customers to use their driver’s licenses, but because the new self-serve stations have touch screens and barcode scanners, the only way to access your account is by scanning your library card. For the sake of consistency, we only accept library cards at the drive-up window, too. We offer to replace your card so that you don’t have to leave the Library without your materials. Should you prefer, we can always set your selections aside until you return with your card. You may also opt to purchase a keychain card instead of a wallet card if that would be more convenient. Regarding someone else using your card: You are responsible for the card and anything checked out on it. If your card is lost or stolen, you are urged to report it to us immediately. I think this new process is a waste of time and money. I very rarely have my library card on me and now I cannot use my driver's liscense. I was told if I don't have or cannot find my library card I must come in and buy one for a dollar. What a great way to rip off customers at a "free library". The drive up window is not self check out, yet I still cannot use my liscense there. This is enough of a bother that I'm considering not even using this library any more. Your driver's liscense is how you are suppose to prove who you are and now all the sudden you can't do that. This process is no better or faster that the other one. What if someone you know gets your library card and knows you phone number, nothing is stoping them from using it. This is absolutely ridiculous

Thanks for submitting your concerns regarding our move to self service checkout. It is a different model for us, but one that is becoming more and more common in public libraries across the country. The driving force for the change revolves around operating costs and the need to manage tax dollars effectively. We believe the move will allow us to begin using our staffing resources differently. In the long run, we'll need to pay fewer staff to work in the circulation function and can shift those resources to other tasks where the need is great. We think we can do that without increasing our salary expenses - which is a positive response to our taxpayers, as well as the current economy.

The only time we use your phone number to set your PIN is when we create your account or reset your PIN upon your request. Even if your phone number changes, your PIN will remain the same unless you specify otherwise. You can also change it to any other number you'd like to use from your account page on the online catalog.

I tried to install the LibX as this seemed like a nice tool, but it didn't work. The installation appeared to proceed, but I could not ever get anything to appear on the tool bar. I have no idea what to do to get it to work, so it's worthless!

Thanks for your post Gary. I'd like to correct one item in it and elaborate on one segment. First, CIS is NOT going to be demolished. While the OSFC recommended it, Wadsworth school officials were able to negotiate and remove that from the list of schools to be replaced. Central School will NOT be razed. In order to receive the $36,000,000 from the OSFC, Wadsworth is required to address Isham, Valley View, and Overlook Elementary Schools. While I understand your concerns about sunk costs, the school system has to maintain the buildings it has. Any improvements to Isham have and will be put to good use. This is true if the issue fails next week or if the issue passes because new elementary school construction would still be 3-4 years in the future. Let's not forget though, that despite the improvements that have been made at Isham, the OSFC, an independent group, STILL recommended that the entire building be replaced. The renovations you mention were completed prior to OSFC money becoming available, and even with the improvements, the commission said that the building has several other shortcomings that would be too costly to address through a renovation project, thus the recommendation to rebuild the school. They did feel that the recent improvements that were made were critical to basic operations and needed to be done to serve students over the past few years and even for the next few years before more renovations must be made or a complete re-build undertaken.

I hope the voters realize exactly what they are voting for. I have not a problem with a new school but this levy is just to build the buildings. After that they will need to operate and maintain these very large buildings.Just look at Medina they have built a campus to rival a college and now taxes are way out of hand in Medina. Also they have just spent money to redo Isham and CIS and they want to demolish these buildings! What a waste of use of our tax money! Remember what we build we will pay for and it will not stop!

I love our library and the services that it offers us, and certainly a 10 cent overdue fee is a fair amount. However, I am saddened by the fact that we no longer recieve "Courtesey Notices" of upcoming due dates like we did on the old system. (At least, I don't). I know that as the "borrower", it is my responsibility to get the materials back on time, but it is also very helpful to have an additional reminder for those of us who can't seem to keep things as organized as we would like. :)

This concept seemed to be quite grand I think it is well overdoing it. Do you think that the economy is in a upswing? Last time I checked the unemployment rate is up and salaries are not increasing to keep up with inflation. Where is the money coming from to build this city within a city? I do not have a problem with a new high school but this is to the extreme. Look at Medina High School and Highland they are like college campus! And Wadsworth who brags that they get the most for each dollar spent on each student is just about to do the same thing! I am sure that I am not the only one that feels this way! We need to be frugal and get the most for our money! Just because it is large does not mean the students are going to be smarter. So I know I am only one person just remember we can not afford extreme tax increases! Please listen to all citizens! Just build a frugal,green and a normal building we do not need all the bells and whistles.

The best customer service I ever had was in Kentucky, on one of those cave tours. We got there what we thought was 10 minutes before opening time. The staff invited us to come in, browse the gift shop, sit on their bench. I found out a few minutes after "opening time" that we had crossed a time zone and were actually an hour and ten minutes early. The staff there smiled the whole time, were friendly and welcoming, and probably thought we were nuts for wanting to browse the very small gift shop for over an hour, but they never once made us feel unwelcome and didn't even make us feel foolish when we found out what time it really was!

The lack of ability to place holds easily on books in other locations was my biggest reservation about the new system. Great job, Matthew! (And my second grievance was the need to type in our bar code over and over again. And you fixed that, too! Plus now we can use simple user names that we can actually remember instead of a bar code. (It will depend on the subject of the item, if it fits our collection development policy, when it was published, is it available for purchase, etc.) I can say we will make every effort to obtain the book for you as quickly as possible. We are also waiting for the technological issues to be resolved with OhioLink to be able to provide customers access to all of the university libraries in Ohio. This will greatly broaden the availability of research materials.

Being cut off from ClEVNET is severely limiting our access to research materials. What is the likelihood and average timespan for Wadsworth to order an unavailable item?

If you're on the page which lists the items you have checked out, try checking the box to the left of each item you want to renew, then using the "Renew Selected" button above the list of items. It does return you to the same page, but in the list of items, in the "Status" column, it should indicate that the items you selected have been renewed. For example when I renew an item on my record, it now says:

DUE 11-14-07 RENEWED
Now due 11-21-07
Renewed 1 time

I have been unable to see my account. I was told to click on renew and when I do it flashs and shows the same screen. I have a large number of books out and I have no idea when they are due and hopefully I will not receive fines for them.
