Are Cell Phones the Modern Sedentary Device? - Technology Series
August 10 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm
Modern cell phone use is virtually ubiquitous in our society. These devices allow users to watch videos, browse the internet, and play videogames in nearly any setting, at any time. Traditionally these activities are associated with more of a sitting behavior, but because cell phones are portable, their use does not have to be a sedentary behavior. With a wide range of apps and other factory settings, cell phone users can access programs that promote physical activity. Dr. Jacob Barkley from Kent State University will present his research findings regarding whether cell phone use predicts sedentary behavior much like the more traditional technology, such as the television, DVD player, or video game console.
