The world changes dramatically when mysterious spaceships land at various points of the world. There seems to be a standstill in finding out why the aliens have arrived, and the government is searching for a new approach. The government enlists the talented academic linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) to see if she can somehow connect with the aliens and avoid a war. This Academy Award-nominated film entices audiences with its intelligent story and empathy.
