Music and Movement
in Meeting Room A
We are all too familiar with the ongoing opioid crisis in our community, state and nation. While many communities are dealing with this tragic issue, we are truly blessed to have so many dedicated volunteers in our own community working to develop solutions. This spring we are honored to host the Wadsworth Drug-Free Community Coalition in a three-part series focused on educating community members to identify and address this very troubling problem.
In the face of such trying realities, it is important that we do not lose sight of positive developments in our community. In this spirit we are happy to report new growth at Wadsworth Public Library, from a forthcoming enhancement to our children’s area to new, hands-on programming in the arts.
At press time, the Library Board of Trustees is preparing to approve bid documentation for enhancements to our children’s area. These planned enhancements will offer new opportunities for parent-child bonding that encourages the development of early-literacy skills through play. The project is made possible by the generous commitment of the Wadsworth Public Library Foundation to fund the majority share of the cost of construction and furnishings. Project details are available at www.wadsworthlibrary.com/renovation.
We are also very excited to offer new hands-on workshops in the arts to our public this season. Through a partnership with Wadsworth Music, guitar hobbyists in the community are invited to join us for a 3-part group guitar lesson. There is no cost to participate unless you are in need of a rental, in which case a discounted rental rate is available from Wadsworth Music. We are also offering an introduction to line-drawing course, also free of charge, where aspiring artists will begin by training their eyes, then putting sight to paper in a 3-part series.
A conversation, which began as a whisper only a few years ago, is slowly growing into a public demand: a need for balance in our technologically abundant world. In the spirit of this growing need, we are initiating a “technology detox” series with a Coloring Meditation Hour, offered once per month during the spring season. Participants will be invited to relax through the practice of contemplative coloring in a quiet environment, accompanied by soothing music and tea, compliments of the Library.
Whether you’re looking to explore new ideas, research a topic close to your heart, find a relaxing read or cultivate new relationships around common interests, Wadsworth Public Library has something for everyone. And while you are here, remember to check out our growing reading collections, perhaps the most simple way to begin a “technology detox.” Borrow a book. Find a quiet place to unplug. Then read and unwind. It is a simple pleasure that releases stress and strengthens the mind.
We look forward to seeing you in the Library soon.
