Return ‘em on time…save a dime!
For the first time in 48 years and only the second time since 1926, the Wadsworth Public Library is increasing overdue fees on books, music, and framed art – from five cents to ten cents a day. Why now? To encourage our customers to bring their items back on time so others may use them. Thousands of items are out “after curfew" on any given day. So, bring your items back on time and save!

If you need to keep items out longer, let us know. Most items can be renewed by calling us at 330-334-5761 or by accessing your personal account online. To renew items on your account, click on the gold "My Record" button at the top right side of this page and follow the instructions for renewing.

Please note: The new fee schedule takes effect August 1, 2008 & only applies to items owned by Wadsworth Public Library.

Community Partners

The community leaders from the city, school, library and hospital shared the “Wadsworth Community Campus Building Massing Idea" at a public meeting on May 29. The plan presented includes a new high school and a community health and wellness center. This was the third community meeting since the Wadsworth Community Survey was conducted.

Background: The collaborative effort started when Wadsworth City Schools moved up on the list to receive money from the Ohio School Facility Commission (OSFC).  The OSFC is helping fund schools in an effort to improve the quality of Ohio school facilities.  The Wadsworth City School district has now been assessed by OSFC, and the Wadsworth City Board of Education is currently reviewing their master plan.  The high school is not the only building on that list since the OSFC feels every building needs to be assessed.  The school district has to agree on a plan where the state will provide 36 cents on the dollar for approved projects, and then must raise the remaining money.

Some of the amenities planned for in a new high school were also amenities being sought by the City of Wadsworth; WRH Health Systems; the Center for Older Adults; and the Wadsworth Public Library.  The cost savings to a community that shares recreation facilities, swimming pools, health and wellness centers, and staffing could not be ignored. A partnership was formed.

Recently, a building concept was selected, reflecting a vision whereby a retired community member can attend functions at the Center for Older Adults, walk on the indoor track, go to their scheduled doctor’s appointment, and receive physical therapy, all without ever leaving the community center.  Students at the high school and middle school can have their sports therapy or orthodontic appointments without needing to leave school.  Adults can swim with their children, drop books at the library, check their youngsters in at daycare, and finish with their own workout in the fitness center.

This effort started with a community survey and, after listening to what the public desired, has resulted in this proposed plan.  Future meetings and continued input from community members will be posted on this website and the websites of each participating member.

Dale Fortner, Superintendent of Wadsworth City Schools

Robin Laubaugh, Mayor of Wadsworth

Jim Pope, CEO and President of WRH Health System

C. Allen Nichols, Director of Wadsworth Public Library

Monthly survey for August 2008
See that link at the bottom of this article? The one that says, "Log in to post a comment"? We'd like to start engaging you in conversation by inviting you to post your monthly survey responses right here on the Library's front page. Don't worry...your identity will be limited to a first name, so only you (and the Library staff member who moderates) will know who wrote the response.

When you click on "Log in to post a comment," you'll have the option of creating a personalized Library ID. Not only can you use this ID to comment on surveys and news articles, but for all functions on our website including access to your Library record.

Here's the survey question for August:
If you could take a week's vacation with one famous person,
who would you want it to be and why?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Loanable laptops are now available!
Ever drop in at the Library to use the Internet and find all of the public computers in use? Now you can borrow a laptop to use anywhere in the building! You need to be 18 or older, have a valid Ohio driver's license or other state-issued ID, and a Wadsworth Library account in good standing. Laptops may be borrowed for up to two hours per day and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information and to fill out a laptop loan application, see a staff member at the Customer Service Desk.

eBooks (and other great things) are here!
Now you can download electronic books, audio books, videos, and music free of charge from the Ohio eBook Project, from home or office or from a special computer station at the Wadsworth Library. Browse and search hundreds of great titles and download them to computers, transfer them to portable devices, or burn them onto CDs for reading, listening, and viewing anywhere, anytime.

To start exploring, click on the link labeled "Download Books, Music & Movies" from the menu at the left side of this page. The OverDrive Download Station at the Library is located in the AV room. You will need to bring your MP3 player and USB cable with you -- the Download Station does not have a CD burner.
